What Is Tai Ji Quan?
Tai Ji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan) is a meditation, health and martial art.
Especially in times like these, when wars are spreading, societies are becoming more divided, and technology is leading us to increasing disconnection from our own inner nature, it has become more important than ever to have a tool that can help us to reconnect with our physical and inner selves.
Join us in this interview and discus with us, why Tai Ji Quan is an art for everyone, that is not just about learning to fight, but even more about expressing ourselves and reconnecting us with a healthy way of living.
Move slowly with us in our upcoming Tai Ji Basic Seminar, Intensive Full-Time Month, or Summer Camp.
Basic Seminar: 06-07.07.2024
Intensive Month: 06.07.-04.08.2024

Xing Yi Quan - Internal Skills and Speed

Often it is questioned, how we can use Xing Yi nowadays in a realistic combat situation... While this question can be answered in my option also with the very basic techniques of Xing YI Quan, it can even more simply answered by the speed and power development principles of Xing Yi Quan. If we understand how we can generate power through center control and timing, through releasing and step wor...
Xing Yi Quan - Close Range Fighting Concepts

Xing Yi Quan is an ancient internal Chinese martial art that offers us numerous concepts for health, spiritual development, and fighting practices. Often, practitioners of other martial arts don't understand how traditional arts are applied in real fighting situations. The basics may seem abstract and too distant from practical application. However, just as an MMA fighter builds strength throug...
Xing Yi Quan - Striking from Emptiness

By observing our overextending reactions we can learn step by step to release from them. What is very useful for our daily lifes, is also very necessary for building up a relaxed and efficient striking method. How can we get soft and p...
Xing Yi Quan - Forget About Power
Переглядів 2,5 тис.2 місяці тому
Become powerful, by forgetting about power! Nature doesn't know anything about being natural... yet it is. Following the laws of nature, we want also in Xing Yi to forget, about the aim, the goal and instead enter into a state of Not-Knowing - A state of Giving Up... In the moment we embrace "weakness" we can let go, release and discover new mechanisms of power creation. Mechanisms that rely on...

    Your history is all over the place. Yueh Fei, has no connection to Xing Yi Quan, apart from a fable, which tells a boxing manual which was credited being found by a Cao Jiwu (who also has nothing to do with Xin Yi Quan either). Ji Long Feng was the founder and 1st generation master, who passed down teachings, which made their way to "Ma Xueli" which founded, the Muslim, Xinyiliuhequan, which then later was assimilated by the Dai family i n Qi Xian, Shanxi. Modern Xing Yi Quan, as that is formed by, Li Laoneng came from Dai family. Your story of the "beng quan master" was actually referring to, Guo Yunshen ,who mastered and developed a technique called "half step crushing fist" and this was not just a sole technique he learnt but specialised in.

      Hey Daixinyi, I appreciate your constructive criticism! As I said in the video, I don't really talk about the history. More using the Legend as an inspiration. As I am informed there are no real scientific evidence of the history of Xing Yi Quan. Yours I also heard already. So I find it is a valuable addition to this video here. Thank you! But I also heard other stories. If you have sources of scientific evidence that I could check out, I will be happy to get a link for that. I am eager to learn!

      @@xuangongfu To be honest the history from, Ji Long Feng is pretty straight forward and non mystical, though later on there is some discrepancies, Li Lao Neng, learnt from. Some say he learnt directly from, Dai family, such as, Dai Wenxiong (Dai Long Bang's son), others say he learnt from, Guo Weihan (which has it's own unique branch of Xinyi, which still exists in Qi Xian , to this day), Guo, was Dai Long Bang's nephew. If we are talking how. Xinyiliuhequan came to be assimilated into , Dai Xin Yi Quan, then the name which is commonly attributed to it, is Li Zheng (Zhang Zhicheng's student) - Zhang, being a student of - Ma Xueli.

    Thank you for the great interview! For me, it would also be nice if you compare the arts you present with the others, e.g. which principles are emphasised in Taiji when compared to Bagua or Xingyi. In the end, the principles of the different arts may converge to the same aim, but which skills are built better at the beginning in Taiji? I hope this would not make the videos too long or detailed though ;) Thank you so much for your work :)

Waiting for the aggressor attackes is not a good strategy, because he not throwing a punch, but punches in a uncontrolled manner. You are in danger be overwhelmed. To be a complete martial artist you need be able striking out wider distance. With a little experience in boxing with or without kicks, you will know a Bengquan or a piercing palm are not designed for attacks from distance. This arts good for law enforcement/security. Sir, a nice,explanations, a bit one-sided. Oversimplification is for business but not for practical martial arts. Some physical efforts are still needed. Biomechanics cannot be fooled. It is obvious that a big body needs big muscles while to move, while a feeble body needs mostly generated from the sinews and the fascial structure of the body, refer to Training principals of fascial effect in Okinawan Karate. On one and of the spectre was Hercules not a feeble bodied person. His muscles driven by his intelligence made him a hero. On the opposite end stands a person like Bruce Lee , who need extra speed to generate power. Like a bullet, some gramms of lead and alloys at a right speed penetrate a brick wall. Its a matter of course that between the two extremes stand a lot of structural varieties, each of them is in need of the proper mixture of muscles and sinews or strings. A Swarzenegger bodied person cannot fight like a witng tchun practitioner, or even a XIn YI expert, should rely on simple and high speed movements. Having spent decades on the tatami, I myself know that the instructor is there to find the proper mix for the newcomer, first judging by his or her body strurcture, then flexibiity, agility and mindset as well. Let me wish you good students and good health, too, Paul ,68, retired instructor.

    Having transitioned from Kung Fu towards boxing, and so looking at this from boxing/sparring mindset - the striking/theory looks good - and I know this is just a demonstration, but there is so much pre-movement of the body/legs before the strike you can really see it coming a mile away - making it way too slow (e.g. 2:13). It would be good to see a demo how to move your feet/body also so that the strike comes fast and with "no warning" - otherwise this looks like a very disjointed exercise (IMHO). So to not fall into bad habits (and I am still very amateur/learning) I think it should not be step and then punch (too slow / gives the game away), it should be more like step & punch more-or-less at the same time, right?

      @alastair4839 Your misunderstanding the entire purpose of this video. The Sifu here is merely teaching you an exercise to develop one specific skill. This exercise is designed to teach you how to relax and strike without overcommitting or placing too much importance on whether or not you hit, that's it. This is not a sparring exercise or full contact full speed. I promise you no matter what this looks like to you at home, when you are sparring in front of a Xing Yi Quan practitioner and in striking range, or grappling range, the techniques are not telegraphed at all. You can enter with a Pi Chuan or splitting fist technique to the face or neck and follow up with a Beng Chuan to the liver or spleen and the opponent will never see it coming. To comment on the fighting aspects of what is shown in this video is like someone who never followed western boxing laughing at boxers who jump rope for example and commenting on how does jumping rope help you in a fight. Or commenting why a boxer is wasting his time drilling on a speed bag that doesn't hit back. You have exercises designed to develop different skills. There are plenty of Xing Yi Quan videos here on YT that show experts sparring with it against opponents for you to see how to apply it at full speed and power.

      @@BaritoneUkeBeast4Life thanks for the reply, and it makes some sense. But, I am not quite convinced... when you practice like this - you "drill" in the telegraphing / bad habits. This practice could easily be done without it. In boxing - against the bag, pads, shadow-boxing, whatever - if you do bad technique and drill it in, you soon find out in sparring, or get told off :p - your analogy doesn't really hold up. Jump rope is universal (like running or anything else) and the speed bag isn't really a punch technique

      @BaritoneUkeBeast4Life Місяць тому

      @@alastair4839 What you say regarding drilling in bad habits is most certainly true, and I agree with you completely. But doing things slow in the internal arts allows the student to focus on their body structure and joints through every micro movement from the beginning to the end of each move. So moving fast all the time isn’t always advantageous for a student of the internal arts like Xing Yi or Tai Chi. By the way the strikes in Xing Yi shoot straight out toward the centerline of the opponent. So the body generates energy like a bow while the limbs strike straight out like an arrow. You will find boxing strikes like its hook punches, telegraph far more than any of the strikes found within Xing Yi.

    • @alastair4839
      @alastair4839 Місяць тому

      @@BaritoneUkeBeast4Life I have no issue training slow movements. But I have done these kinds of drills many times (in Kung fu and Tai Chi) - and picked up the bad movements. I got the power and speed, but was quickly exposed later when I started to spar with the boxing / kick-boxing lads, my little rocking/prep motions meant I would get parried or slipped and countered and got hit a good many times. I had to work hard to remove all the "nonsense", so strikes are from A to B and start immediately - no pre-movement. Hooks should not be telegraphed - you might move into position before you throw one, you might not - but it is not part of the strike. I don't know, maybe I am being picky - but these movements make me cringe a bit, I think they could be done, nice and slowly, without all the rocking - that is all I am really saying - not trying to say boxing is better/worse - you just get exposed very quickly in the ring if you do any extraneous movements : )

      @@alastair4839 That’s fine then you do what works for you. But don’t put down what others do just because you’re unable to make it work for you. If you’re into western boxing and you don’t have any interest in Kung Fu, why are you even here wasting your time watching Kung fu videos and commenting. Go train.

    Love the connections between the kinetic movements to the inner attitudes. Cool exercise!
